Difficult Actors to Work With48 of 48
Brett Butler
Was a nightmare to work with during the run of Grace Under Fire (1993).
Many people who worked on the show have testified that Butler was an out of control diva whose behavior was fueled by alcoholism and an addiction to painkillers.
Butler would routinely make the lives of everyone on the show a living hell, with co-star Dave Thomas saying of everyone's mentality: "We were all just trying to get through this, make the money, and get out with some shred of dignity and pride."
While Thomas tried to quit the show and was unable to for contractual reasons, many people did leave the show prematurely during it's run. This included series creator Chuck Lorre, who Butler had fired during the first season due to her wanting to run the show herself, co-star Julie White, who quit after the fourth season due to being fed up with Butler's behavior, and co-star Jon Paul Steuer, who, at twelve-years-old, was released from the show after Butler flashed her breasts at him.
Butler's frequent meltdowns and increasingly ill health led to ABC cancelling the series after five seasons.
