- DirectorLee UnkrichStarsTom HanksTim AllenJoan CusackThe toys are mistakenly delivered to a day-care center instead of the attic right before Andy leaves for college, and it's up to Woody to convince the other toys that they weren't abandoned and to return home. It's a close race between the first and third installment in one of the greatest film trilogies ever, but the third squeaked out the win by packing a bigger emotional punch.
- DirectorJohn LasseterStarsTom HanksTim AllenDon RicklesA cowboy doll is profoundly threatened and jealous when a new spaceman action figure supplants him as top toy in a boy's bedroom. The first Pixar product was revolutionary and is still exciting to this day. I grew up on this lovable story of friendship, so it has great sentimental value.
- DirectorPete DocterDavid SilvermanLee UnkrichStarsBilly CrystalJohn GoodmanMary GibbsIn order to power the city, monsters have to scare children so that they scream. However, the children are toxic to the monsters, and after a child gets through, two monsters realize things may not be what they think.Pixar knows how to do friendships, and the relationship between Mike and Sully is second only to that of Woody and Buzz. Add in the adorable Boo, and you've got a heart-warming, effective picture.
- DirectorJohn LasseterAsh BrannonLee UnkrichStarsTom HanksTim AllenJoan CusackWhen Woody is stolen by a toy collector, Buzz and his friends set out on a rescue mission to save Woody before he becomes a museum toy property with his roundup gang Jessie, Prospector, and Bullseye. This isn't quite the same quality as the first and third installments, but it still produces the same great feeling while introducing some wonderful new characters.
- DirectorPete DocterRonnie Del CarmenStarsAmy PoehlerBill HaderLewis BlackAfter young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions - Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness - conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school.Pixar movies are noticeably made to be enjoyable for both kids and adults, and adults may find themselves relating to this one even more than the kids. Very emotional film (pun intended.)
- DirectorPete DocterBob PetersonStarsEdward AsnerJordan NagaiJohn Ratzenberger78-year-old Carl Fredricksen travels to Paradise Falls in his house equipped with balloons, inadvertently taking a young stowaway. The first five minutes of this film have already started making their way into cinematic history. The rest of the film is pretty great too.
- DirectorBrad BirdStarsCraig T. NelsonSamuel L. JacksonHolly HunterWhile trying to lead a quiet suburban life, a family of undercover superheroes are forced into action to save the world.Although it's largely forgotten in the discussion of superhero films, this is one of the all-time greats for the genre.
- DirectorBrad BirdJan PinkavaStarsBrad GarrettLou RomanoPatton OswaltA rat who can cook makes an unusual alliance with a young kitchen worker at a famous Paris restaurant.Fueled by a nice relationship between man and rat, this wonderful Pixar film puts following your dreams into a smaller (mouse-size) perspective.
- DirectorAndrew StantonLee UnkrichStarsAlbert BrooksEllen DeGeneresAlexander GouldAfter his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home. This story of a father and his wacky companion searching for his lost son is unforgettable. Ellen DeGeneres provides some of the best voice acting we have ever seen...or heard?
- DirectorAndrew StantonAngus MacLaneStarsEllen DeGeneresAlbert BrooksEd O'NeillFriendly but forgetful blue tang Dory begins a search for her long-lost parents and everyone learns a few things about the real meaning of family along the way.
- DirectorJohn LasseterAndrew StantonStarsKevin SpaceyDave FoleyJulia Louis-DreyfusA misfit ant, looking for "warriors" to save his colony from greedy grasshoppers, recruits a group of bugs that turn out to be an inept circus troupe. The second Pixar picture is the first film I remember seeing in a theater, so that gave it a few bonus points. The film gives us an interesting hero, an equally enticing villain, and a battle larger than life...the life of an ant that is.
- DirectorDan ScanlonStarsBilly CrystalJohn GoodmanSteve BuscemiA look at the relationship between Mike Wazowski and James P. "Sully" Sullivan during their days at Monsters University, when they weren't necessarily the best of friends.I really enjoyed this prequel, but it didn't hold a candle to the original and didn't rejuvenate the franchise like the Toy Story sequels. I still consider it a great film that was snubbed by the Academy in the Best Animated Film category.
- DirectorAndrew StantonStarsBen BurttElissa KnightJeff GarlinIn the distant future, a small waste-collecting robot inadvertently embarks on a space journey that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind. Most people would put this aesthetically beautiful film higher, and I wouldn't necessarily blame them. Still, it didn't give me the same feeling as most of the other Pixar products, despite being one of the best-looking films in the Pixar repertoire.
- DirectorJohn LasseterJoe RanftStarsOwen WilsonBonnie HuntPaul NewmanOn the way to the biggest race of his life, a hotshot rookie race car gets stranded in a rundown town and learns that winning isn't everything in life. This film is very pleasing and enjoyable, but doesn't quite have the touch of the other Pixar films. Still, it strikes a longing for old small-town life, with the star of the show being the town of Radiator Springs.
