- DirectorSidney J. FurieStarsMichael CaineNigel GreenGuy DolemanIn London, a wisecracking spy investigates the kidnapping and brainwashing of British scientists while dealing with the constraints of his agency's bureaucracy. One of my favourite Spy Thrillers. A bit old , but the plot is pretty slick and there is something about the 60's that makes the films swing the right way. Michael Cane plays Harry Palmer , for me a much better character than Mr Bond. Alas, not many people in my circle had heard of him!
- DirectorTony ScottStarsRobert RedfordBrad PittCatherine McCormackRetiring CIA agent Nathan Muir recalls his training of Tom Bishop while working against agency politics to free him from his Chinese captors.Gripping and quite entertaining. If you like sketch narration, this movie will satiate your appetite. It has the fleeting scent of the 90's and yet is much more subtle in terms of story treatment.
- DirectorMichael WinnerStarsBurt LancasterAlain DelonPaul ScofieldDuring the Cold War, the CIA orders free-lance operative Scorpio to assassinate his former CIA mentor Cross and a deadly cat-and-mouse game ensues.Surprisingly obscure, the movie is quite well made and beats many peers on multiple counts. Although set in the Cold War era , the film has a very unconventional tone . Love it for that.
- DirectorBrian G. HuttonStarsRichard BurtonClint EastwoodMary UreAllied agents stage a daring raid on a castle where the Nazis are holding American brigadier general George Carnaby prisoner, but that's not all that's really going on.It had to be here. Clint Eastwood , Richard Burton and the Alps.
- DirectorFred ZinnemannStarsEdward FoxTerence AlexanderMichel AuclairIn the aftermath of France allowing Algeria's independence, a group of resentful military veterans hire a professional assassin codenamed "Jackal" to kill President Charles de Gaulle.Perhaps a masterpiece of popular cinema. The direction is exquisite . The use of narration is quite impressive and sets the ball rolling, which doesn't stop till the riveting climax. One of my all time favourites.
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsLeonardo DiCaprioRussell CroweMark StrongA CIA agent on the ground in Jordan hunts down a powerful terrorist leader while being caught between the unclear intentions of his American supervisors and Jordan Intelligence.Another movie that deserves more fame. Di Caprio , Russell Crowe and Mark Strong deliver strong performances. Very entertaining.
- DirectorDoug LimanStarsFranka PotenteMatt DamonChris CooperA man is picked up by a fishing boat, bullet-riddled and suffering from amnesia, before racing to elude assassins and attempting to regain his memory. The best in the Franchise. The action choreography was brilliant and was emulated by Bond et al in the films that followed . The soundtrack is amazing as well. Matt Damon does a good job .
- DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsTom CruiseJon VoightEmmanuelle BéartAn American agent, under false suspicion of disloyalty, must discover and expose the real spy without the help of his organization. The only MI movie that can be called a classic thriller. Memorable heist scenes and background score. A great movie.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsTimothy DaltonRobert DaviCarey LowellA vengeful James Bond goes rogue to infiltrate and take down the organization of a drug lord who has murdered his friend's new wife and left him near death.Timothy Dalton for me is underrated . He acts well and lends weight to the other wise fanciful James Bond series. Despite some obvious over the top elements , the movie is one of the better made Bond films.
- DirectorMartin CampbellStarsPierce BrosnanSean BeanIzabella ScorupcoWhen a powerful secret defense system is stolen, James Bond is assigned to stop a Russian crime syndicate from using it.The quintessential 90's action movie, GoldenEye offers everything. The typical male lead , hot actresses , a superb opening theme song, charged up action scenes and a lot more.
- DirectorMartin RittStarsRichard BurtonOskar WernerClaire BloomInstead of coming in from the Cold War, British agent Alec Leamas chooses to face another mission.A must watch . Brilliant direction and screenplay.
