- DirectorSebastian GutierrezStarsMalin AkermanPatrick ArthurAaron Behr1950s LA: A police detective checks into a hotel with a bag of money, hoping to go away with Swedish Mary.I watched silently and painfully all the good actors letting the story unfold, but I was bored. So bored.
- DirectorSebastian GutierrezStarsLucy LiuMichael ChiklisCarla GuginoA reporter wakes up in a morgue and finds herself a member of the undead, before vowing revenge against the sect which put her there.Distasteful and poorly edited.
- DirectorJackson StewartStarsGraham SkipperChase WilliamsonBrea GrantTwo estranged brothers reunite at their missing father's video store and find a VCR board game dubbed 'Beyond The Gates' that holds a connection to their father's disappearance.Well, it could be considered as ok, i.e., the reminiscence of the 80's and everything. But it didn't work for me.
- DirectorScott SchirmerStarsJason CroweEllie ChurchTristan RiskFive friends fall under the seductive influence of a libidinous, otherworldly presence that threatens to change their lives forever.Well, mostly unpleasant on all levels.
- DirectorEva HussonStarsFinnegan OldfieldMarilyn LimaLorenzo LefèbvreIn the well-to-do suburbs of a small town, a group of pretty average, well-adjusted sixteen and seventeen year olds are ordinary adolescents who take a singular path.Cute little story, and an average movie with young promising actors.
- DirectorTate TaylorStarsEmily BluntHaley BennettRebecca FergusonA divorcee becomes entangled in a missing persons investigation that promises to send shockwaves throughout her life.It hesitates, at some point, and the script is weak. I haven't read the book, so I don't know. But the acting is really good, altogether.
- DirectorAndré ØvredalStarsBrian CoxEmile HirschOphelia LovibondA father and son, both coroners, are pulled into a complex mystery while attempting to identify the cause of death of a young woman who was apparently harboring dark secrets.Loved it.
- DirectorPavle VuckovicStarsSlaven DosloJovana StojiljkovicMilos PjevacDepicts how digital communication, pornography, and vanity obstruct true emotions and love.Watchable.
- DirectorDamien ChazelleStarsRyan GoslingEmma StoneRosemarie DeWittWhile navigating their careers in Los Angeles, a pianist and an actress fall in love while attempting to reconcile their aspirations for the future. It misses some elements to be an excellent movie. Sometimes, the two actors aren't convincing enough. Yet, there are so many good elements here that it makes it surely a pretty good movie. It's hard not to think of Woody Allen movies, of An American in Paris, Paris Blues, and A New Kind of Love. The couple Newman-Woodward comes immediately to mind.
- DirectorRon HowardStarsTom HanksFelicity JonesIrrfan KhanWhen Robert Langdon wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Dr. Sienna Brooks and they race across Europe together against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.An interesting beginning, but then it crumbles very rapidly. Too bad.
- DirectorDenis VilleneuveStarsAmy AdamsJeremy RennerForest WhitakerA linguist works with the military to communicate with alien lifeforms after twelve mysterious spacecraft appear around the world.Hmmm. This is a very good movie. I somehow didn't think I would be watching something that good. I'm afraid I somehow wasn't able to follow the aura of it. Will have to see it again soon.
- DirectorDavid YatesStarsEddie RedmayneKatherine WaterstonAlison SudolIn 1926, magizoologist Newt Scamander arrives in New York during his worldwide tour to research and rescue magical creatures as something mysterious leaves trails of destruction in the city, threatening to expose the wizarding world.Interesting. I'm looking forward to see the next installment.
- DirectorAlberto BarbozaStarsMiguel Angel CaballeroIliana CarterMina OliveraCry Now follows the electrifying sexy encounters between Vincent, a street poster artist, and Luzy, a tattoo designer. But Sofia, Vincent's obsessive ex-girlfriend, is not ready to let go.Watchable.
- DirectorFellipe BarbosaStarsMarcello NovaesSuzana PiresThales CavalcantiExploring issues of class privilege among Rio's decadent elite, Casa Grande depicts a teenage boy's struggle to escape his overprotective parents as they covertly spiral into bankruptcy.Above average.
- DirectorJ.A. BayonaStarsLewis MacDougallSigourney WeaverFelicity JonesConor, a twelve-year-old boy, encounters an ancient tree monster who proceeds to help him cope with his mother's terminal illness and being bullied in school.A good movie. Even though, in the same league, I prefer "Pan's Labyrinth".
- DirectorKenneth LonerganStarsCasey AffleckMichelle WilliamsKyle ChandlerA depressed uncle is asked to take care of his teenage nephew after the boy's father dies.An excellent film, with excellent performances.
- DirectorBarry JenkinsStarsMahershala AliNaomie HarrisTrevante RhodesA young African-American man grapples with his identity and sexuality while experiencing the everyday struggles of childhood, adolescence, and burgeoning adulthood.I wasn't overcome by this one, even though it is pretty good. I probably must watch it again some time.
- DirectorElizabeth WoodStarsMorgan SaylorBrian MarcJustin BarthaSummer, New York City. A college girl falls hard for a guy she just met. After a night of partying goes wrong, she goes to wild extremes to get him back.Above average.
- DirectorMel GibsonStarsAndrew GarfieldSam WorthingtonLuke BraceyWorld War II American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, serving during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people and becomes the first man in American history to receive the Medal of Honor without firing a shot.Very good, despite the documentary ending, which could have been skipped.
- DirectorDavid Michael ConleyStarsRJ MitteDaphne ZunigaPaloma KwiatkowskiA sheltered, intelligent college student DOUG (RJ Mitte of "Breaking Bad") changes his life forever when he hires an underachieving driver SCOTT (Ray William Johnson of "Equals Three"). In order to escape his oppressively loving MOTHER (Daphne Zuniga), Doug agrees to go on a spontaneous road trip with Scott and his college crush STEPHANIE (Paloma Kwiatkowski of "Bates Motel"). At the height of the journey, a tragic series of events tests their bond and opens the road to self discovery. Drugs, gambling, and romance await the three friends in this honest American coming of age drama.Average.
- DirectorJane SimpsonStarsMimi RoseSheeri RappaportJennifer RubinA group of girls at a Catholic boarding school get mixed up in the occult.Entertaining.
- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsAndrew GarfieldAdam DriverLiam NeesonIn the 17th century, two Portuguese Jesuit priests travel to Japan in an attempt to locate their mentor, who is rumored to have committed apostasy, and to propagate Catholicism.A masterpiece. The best of 2016, by very far. This is not cinema. This is pure art on all levels.
- DirectorDenzel WashingtonStarsDenzel WashingtonViola DavisStephen McKinley HendersonA working-class African-American father tries to raise his family in the 1950s, while coming to terms with the events of his life.A good movie.
- DirectorCarlo VanzinaStarsBilly ZaneLauren HuttonCarol AltBilly Zane leads a pack of money-grabbing relatives who try to take over his ailing uncle's industrial empire.Watchable.
