These are all sorts of films that share one common trait: they always make me laugh. Lots. Often enough to cheer me right up out of whatever funk i sunk into. Laughter is GOOD.

However, they also have to defend both Earth and the alien race from a reptilian warlord.Fantastically fun film all around, with some true laugh out loud moments.
- DirectorMel BrooksStarsMel BrooksJohn CandyRick MoranisA star-pilot for hire and his trusty sidekick must come to the rescue of a princess and save Planet Druidia from the clutches of the evil Spaceballs.Mel Brooks did it again with this gem. It's goofy, irreverent, and even downright dumb at times but in the smartest way. Funny as, uh, funny as a Druish princess!
- DirectorCarl ReinerStarsSteve MartinBernadette PetersCatlin AdamsA simpleminded, sheltered country boy suddenly decides to leave his family home to experience life in the big city, where his naivete is both his best friend and his worst enemy. One of my all time favorite movies simply because I can be in the worst possible mood after the worst possible day and it STILL makes me laugh til my guts hurt. Oh, Navin R Johnson, I love you!
- DirectorJim AbrahamsDavid ZuckerJerry ZuckerStarsRobert HaysJulie HagertyLeslie NielsenAfter the crew becomes sick with food poisoning, a neurotic ex-fighter pilot must safely land a commercial airplane full of passengers.Same as with The Jerk, just one of those comedy gifts that keeps on giving. Even my kids love it. And I'll never think of Ethel Merman the same again!
- DirectorDavid ZuckerStarsLeslie NielsenPriscilla PresleyO.J. SimpsonIncompetent police Detective Frank Drebin must foil an attempt to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II.The series was hilarious, the movie is more of the same but bigger, longer, and with a better budget.
- DirectorGuy RitchieStarsJason FlemyngDexter FletcherNick MoranEddy persuades his three pals to pool money for a vital poker game against a powerful local mobster, Hatchet Harry. Eddy loses, after which Harry gives him a week to pay back 500,000 pounds. One of those oddball films that could possibly be mistaken for a not comedy depending on one's mood when viewing it. But it's smart and sassy in all the right ways.
- DirectorMartin McDonaghStarsColin FarrellWoody HarrelsonSam RockwellA struggling screenwriter inadvertently becomes entangled in the Los Angeles criminal underworld after his oddball friends kidnap a gangster's beloved Shih Tzu.Yeah, it made me laugh. Quite a bit. I think that's enough to make this list.
- DirectorMel BrooksStarsGene WilderMadeline KahnMarty FeldmanAn American grandson of the infamous scientist, struggling to prove that his grandfather was not as insane as people believe, is invited to Transylvania, where he discovers the process that reanimates a dead body.Mel's comedic masterpiece. It's Psycho, if Psycho had been designed to make people laugh themselves silly. Close to my heart, this one is. Blucher!
- DirectorEdgar WrightStarsSimon PeggNick FrostKate AshfieldThe uneventful, aimless lives of a London electronics salesman and his layabout roommate are disrupted by the zombie apocalypse. An absolutely ass-kicking, rollicking good time. Full of laughs while actually being a little creepy here and there.
- DirectorChris ColumbusStarsRobin WilliamsSally FieldPierce BrosnanAfter a bitter divorce, an actor disguises himself as a female housekeeper to spend time with his children held in custody by his former wife. This movie is silly all around, but it's fun and it's a nice family type film. Definitely worth the time and it's got that feel-good vibe on top of the lulz.
- DirectorJohn HughesStarsMolly RingwaldAnthony Michael HallJustin HenryA girl's "sweet" sixteenth birthday is anything but special: her family forgets about it, and she suffers from every embarrassment possible."Automobile? What automobile?" I could keep quoting. There are some films that just give us the memes of our formative years and this is one of them. And mushy sub-story aside, it's a classic of comedy.
- DirectorArmen EvrenselStarsKristin KreukAmanda TappingGeorge TakeiOuter-space explorers encounter gigantic aliens on their ship.No spoilers except to say wait until you see George Takai in action. This movie was side-slapping funny from start to finish. Great acting too. And Amanda Tapping has said it's one of her all time favorite production experiences.
- DirectorGareth CarrivickStarsChris O'DowdMarc WoottonDean Lennox KellyWhile drinking at their local pub, three social outcasts attempt to navigate a time-travel conundrum.Witty, action packed, and a special, quirky kind of funny. I'd love to see it again. And again.
- DirectorEthan CoenJoel CoenStarsBrad PittFrances McDormandGeorge ClooneyA disk containing mysterious information from a CIA agent ends up in the hands of two unscrupulous and daft gym employees who attempt to sell it.If you took all of our nation's distopian civil servants and political weasels, mushed them together, and squeezed them into a sort of political/spy milkshake, you'd come up with the plot for this movie. It's funny as hell and cynical as hell. And the actors (all of them) excel at playing self-centered idiotic asses, but special mention goes to Brad Pitt.
- DirectorJohn LandisStarsJohn BelushiKaren AllenTom HulceAt a 1962 college, Dean Vernon Wormer is determined to expel the entire Delta Tau Chi Fraternity, but those troublemakers have other plans for him.The movie that made the 'campus raunchy drunk-fest comedy' the staple of the modern teen.
- DirectorAlan ParkerStarsRobert ArkinsMichael AherneAngeline BallJimmy Rabbitte, an unemployed Dublin boy, decides to put together a soul band made up entirely of the Irish working class. This film's not exactly upbeat but it's infectious and wow it was fun. Even made me laugh out loud a few times; I really like it.
- DirectorRob ReinerStarsRob ReinerMichael McKeanChristopher GuestSpinal Tap, one of England's loudest bands, is chronicled by film director Marty DiBergi on what proves to be a fateful tour. The reason the word Stonehenge will never be taken seriously again. Oh, also, it's hilarious to listen to these guys talk and watch their hilariously wasted implosion unfold.
- StarsNeil Patrick HarrisPatrick WarburtonMalina Pauli WeissmanAfter the loss of their parents in a mysterious fire, the three Baudelaire children face trials and tribulations attempting to uncover dark family secrets. The movie they made of this was terrible, to the point my kids did not want to stay through it all. I thought this would be more of the same, but DAMN the show is hilarious! From the very first moments of the opening credits you know you're in for some unique insanity, and it just...keepss....coming.
- DirectorDavid WnendtStarsOliver MasucciThomas M. KöpplMarc-Marvin IsraelAdolf Hitler wakes up in the 21st century. He quickly gains media attention, but while Germany finds him hilarious and charming, Hitler makes some serious observations about society. While the tone of this film is definitely more disturbing than anything, it's also got some twistedly great humor in it. All the way through even. Totally worth it.
- CreatorRicky GervaisStephen MerchantStarsRicky GervaisMartin FreemanMackenzie CrookThe story of an office that faces closure when the company decides to downsize its branches. A documentary film crew follow staff and the manager David Brent as they continue their daily lives.I love both this original British version and the American version of the show. Episodes are short enough to gobble up on a quick lunch break, but it's funny and meaty enough to keep you wanting to watch.
- DirectorBen StillerStarsBen StillerJack BlackRobert Downey Jr.Through a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying. This is a film I vehemently fought myself not to watch, but I eventually gave in and I am glad I did! It really should not be so funny but wow.
- DirectorShane BlackStarsRussell CroweRyan GoslingAngourie RiceIn 1970s Los Angeles, a mismatched pair of private eyes investigate a missing girl and the mysterious death of a porn star.We all love our anti-heroes, and there are two co-starring in this film. I had zero expectations, had never even heard of it, and came across it by accident. I am happy I did. You can't really love, or maybe not even like, the two main characters but this slice of their intersected worlds is one sweet ride. And the humor is kind of twisted, but it's definitely there.
- DirectorBilly WilderStarsMarilyn MonroeTony CurtisJack LemmonAfter two male musicians witness a mob hit, they flee the state in an all-female band disguised as women, but further complications set in.Named by a recent poll as the top comedy film of all time, for many, many reasons. The script is taut, the acting as good as it gets, the music fun, the humor non-stop. Really. Even the last line is funny. And gender-bending films were just not a thing before this one.
