- DirectorJohn Lee HancockStarsQuinton AaronSandra BullockTim McGrawThe story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All-American football player and first-round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family.Rich, white Christian lady saves retarded black boy so white Christians can all feel better about themselves. Only in America would this tripe have been successful. It's a nightmare I'd rather forget - and Sandra Bullock is revolting as ever.
- DirectorLee DanielsStarsForest WhitakerOprah WinfreyJohn CusackAs Cecil Gaines serves eight presidents during his tenure as a butler at the White House, the civil rights movement, Vietnam, and other major events affect this man's life, family, and American society.I thoroughly detested everything about "LEE DANIELS' The Butler." It tops my list as worst film of 2013. If you're going to make a propaganda picture - at least employ some tact.
- DirectorPaul FeigStarsKristen WiigMaya RudolphRose ByrneCompetition between the maid of honor and a bridesmaid, over who is the bride's best friend, threatens to upend the life of an out-of-work pastry chef.Hats off to Judd Apatow for leading the charge on making America appreciate stupid humor. A painfully unfunny nightmare - I almost gouged my eyes out every time the morbidly heinous Melissa McCarthy appeared on screen.
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansScarlett JohanssonEarth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity.Superhero films are often overrated but this really struck a nerve for me. It's as if the creators sat in a room and said "let's just put all these guys in a movie together, we'll work out the details while shooting." A flat story that lacked any originality. I take it back, Joss Whedon can disappoint.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsSam WorthingtonZoe SaldanaSigourney WeaverA paraplegic Marine dispatched to the moon Pandora on a unique mission becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he feels is his home.We get it - it's an allegory for the environment. The problem? James Cameron remained unconcerned with crafting a great story and decided instead to work backwards by crafting an agenda. Many movies have an agenda - they just know how to hide it better.
- DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsSandra BullockGeorge ClooneyEd HarrisDr Ryan Stone, an engineer on her first time on a space mission, and Matt Kowalski, an astronaut on his final expedition, have to survive in space after they are hit by debris while spacewalking.Like Avatar, pretty to look at, but that's about it. It pains me that yet again, Sandra Bullock is getting award recognition - this time for hyperventilating and spinning in circles. No surprise there. It seems that's all she has to do now days to be recognized.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleTom HardyAnne HathawayEight years after the Joker's reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane.Christopher Nolan throws together a convoluted third act and fanboys rejoice. Meanwhile, real fans of the comic are rightfully disappointed in what turned out to be a complete waste of time. Sadly, as fantastic as she was, Anne Hathaway couldn't save this overrated pile of garbage.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsTobey MaguireKirsten DunstWillem DafoeAfter being bitten by a genetically-modified spider, a shy teenager gains spider-like abilities that he uses to fight injustice as a masked superhero and face a vengeful enemy.Faithful adaptations are tricky - but what Raimi did here was take a giant steaming dump on 50 years of great storytelling. I was sure Tobey's Peter would commit suicide at any moment, and Kirsten's piss poor excuse for Mary-Jane Watson left a rotten taste in my mouth.
- DirectorJohn MaddenStarsGwyneth PaltrowJoseph FiennesGeoffrey RushThe world's greatest ever playwright, William Shakespeare, is young, out of ideas and short of cash, but meets his ideal woman and is inspired to write one of his most famous plays.I still believe Harvey Weinstein bullied the industry to label this piece of trash as a masterpiece - same goes for Gwyneth Paltrow. Schmalzy, historically inaccurate and trite - an abortion if I ever saw one.
- DirectorNick CassavetesStarsGena RowlandsJames GarnerRachel McAdamsAn elderly man reads to a woman with dementia the story of two young lovers whose romance is threatened by the difference in their respective social classes.A film that takes itself way to seriously. Criminal to watch Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams poo poo over each for two hours - especially knowing both of them can do so much better.
