He sees a commotion across the street, and goes to see what it is. He walks over to see his father on the floor, with the knife Lauren used to kill him placed neatly next to him. He goes to Lauren's house where The Devil places the same knife, so Adam will find out. They argue, and Adam leaves in anger. The next day, Lauren is told to kill Adam.
