Movies I gotta see in 2013.
2012 was one of the best years for movies. We had The Dark Knight Rises, Lincoln, Life of Pi, The Master, Django Unchained, Skyfall, Silver Linings Playbook... and I still haven't seen half of them. 2012 was a year almost too good to be true. But it feels like there was so much given in 2012, that there isn't a whole lot to get in 2013. But I will try to make the most of it.

- DirectorWoody AllenStarsCate BlanchettAlec BaldwinPeter SarsgaardA New York socialite, deeply troubled and in denial, arrives in San Francisco to impose upon her sister. - DirectorAlexander PayneStarsBruce DernWill ForteJune SquibbAn aging, booze-addled father makes the trip from Montana to Nebraska with his estranged son in order to claim a million-dollar Mega Sweepstakes Marketing prize.Alexander Payne is one of our great filmmakers. Each one of his films is lovelier than the last, and I'm curious to see if he can outdo his last film, The Descendants.
- DirectorSpike JonzeStarsJoaquin PhoenixAmy AdamsScarlett JohanssonIn a near future, a lonely writer develops an unlikely relationship with an operating system designed to meet his every need.Spike Jonze has quite the imagination, and from what I've read from the plot, this is definitely a must see. He may have another "Being John Malkovich" on his hands.
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsIan McKellenMartin FreemanRichard ArmitageThe dwarves, along with Bilbo Baggins and Gandalf the Grey, continue their quest to reclaim the Lonely Mountain, their homeland, from the dragon Smaug.I loved the first part, so obviously I'm psyched about part 2.

- DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsJennifer LawrenceJosh HutchersonLiam HemsworthKatniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark become targets of the Capitol after their victory in the 74th Hunger Games sparks a rebellion in the Districts of Panem. The first film was pretty addictive, so I'm excited to see where else the series will go. Plus, viva la Jennifer Lawrence!
- DirectorAdam McKayStarsWill FerrellChristina ApplegatePaul RuddWith the 1970s behind him, Ron Burgundy, San Diego's former top-rated newsreader, returns to take New York City's first twenty-four-hour news channel by storm.Come on already! This is so not fair! Just bring it out already!
- DirectorSofia CoppolaStarsKatie ChangIsrael BroussardEmma WatsonInspired by actual events, a group of fame-obsessed teenagers use the internet to track celebrities' whereabouts in order to rob their homes.I missed Sofia Cappola's last movie, but I hope to catch this one. - DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsSandra BullockGeorge ClooneyEd HarrisDr Ryan Stone, an engineer on her first time on a space mission, and Matt Kowalski, an astronaut on his final expedition, have to survive in space after they are hit by debris while spacewalking. The trailers were quite vague, but it still seems fascinating.
- DirectorLars von TrierStarsCharlotte GainsbourgStellan SkarsgårdStacy MartinA self-diagnosed nymphomaniac recounts her erotic experiences to the man who saved her after a beating.Lars Von Trier is a freak, but I love it. He always gives a good show, so hopefully this one can live up to his last film, Melancholia.
- DirectorAlan TaylorStarsChris HemsworthNatalie PortmanTom HiddlestonWhen the Dark Elves attempt to plunge the universe into darkness, Thor must embark on a perilous and personal journey that will reunite him with doctor Jane Foster.I was pleasantly surprised by the first one, so I'm hoping to be again by the sequel.
- DirectorEthan CoenJoel CoenStarsOscar IsaacCarey MulliganJohn GoodmanA week in the life of a young singer as he navigates the Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961.The Cohen Brothers are two of the best, and though I don't really know what this is about I just hope it's good.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsIdris ElbaCharlie HunnamRinko KikuchiAs a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse. This is probably going to be the smartest action movie of the Summer, and Guillermo Del Toro is a dazzlerm when it comes to visual story telling.
- DirectorFrank MillerRobert RodriguezStarsMickey RourkeJessica AlbaJosh BrolinSome of Sin City's most hard-boiled citizens cross paths with a few of its more reviled inhabitants.I've been waiting quite some time for this, so it better be good.
- DirectorJames WanStarsPatrick WilsonRose ByrneBarbara HersheyThe Lamberts believe that they have defeated the spirits that have haunted their family, but they soon discover that evil is not beaten so easily.Though I think it's a bizarre idea, I'm still pumped.
- DirectorKimberly PeirceStarsChloë Grace MoretzJulianne MooreGabriella WildeA shy girl, outcast by her peers and sheltered by her religious mother, unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom.Does it really need a remake? Not exactly, but with Julianne Moore as the psycho mom, Chloe Moretz as Carrie, and Kimberly Pierce (Boys Don't Cry) directing, it might be worth seeing.

Anxious to see just how far Robert Rodriguez will take it.
