- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.Deeply involving and intense movie. Pretty much everything about it is great. Heath Ledger was very deserving of his Oscar win and he gave us the best villain we have ever seen in a superhero film. In my opinion, this movie was deserving of a Best Picture nom but, of course, the Academy would probably never give that honor to a superhero movie.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsTobey MaguireKirsten DunstAlfred MolinaPeter Parker is beset with troubles in his failing personal life as he battles a former brilliant scientist named Otto Octavius. This is easily the best Spider-Man film to date because it has so many layers that make it much more than a superhero film. The story is great, the fight scenes are very well constructed, and the love story between Peter and Mary Jane is at its best. Plus, Aunt May's hero quote still sends chills down my back every time.
- DirectorJames GunnStarsChris PrattVin DieselBradley CooperA group of intergalactic criminals must pull together to stop a fanatical warrior with plans to purge the universe. This one completely exceeded my expectations! The film is very funny, has some of the best Marvel characters yet, and is TONS of fun. Marvel was very bold to release a film like this with less popular characters than their other films, but it paid off big time. In fact, The Guardians actually showed up The Avengers!
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansRobert Downey Jr.Scarlett JohanssonPolitical involvement in the Avengers' affairs causes a rift between Captain America and Iron Man.Captain America has the best superhero trilogy outside of Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy. This is not only the best of the three, but one of the best Marvel films ever. The airport fight scene may be the best we've seen in a film like this and the storyline is captivating and splits audiences.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansSamuel L. JacksonScarlett JohanssonAs Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world, he teams up with a fellow Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Black Widow, to battle a new threat from history: an assassin known as the Winter Soldier. This film was so good that I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the first film because of its World War 2 setting, but this one handle the present setting wonderfully and made the film even better than the first. Every American should love watching the Cap in this one.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleTom HardyAnne HathawayEight years after the Joker's reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane. Not as good as The Dark Knight, but still very good. The stakes are higher and the characters are all wonderful with great performances all around, especially from Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Anne Hathaway. In the end, Christopher Nolan can say that he has made one of the best film trilogies of all time.
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansScarlett JohanssonEarth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity.I know that many people LOVED this film and would consider #7 too low. However, this movie isn't a whole lot besides the intense action and funny arguments between the heroes. It also takes a downfall by not being able to focus on the life of one superhero, losing a great effect. The action really drives this film because it has to, and it makes it one of the funnest movies out there, qualifying it for this list.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartIan McKellenHugh JackmanThe X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants. This is, in my opinion, the best film in the long-running series to date. The joining of characters from the original X-Men films and those from X-Men: First Class couldn't have been done much better and the time-travel aspect was very captivating. The film was helped out by great performances from the whole cast.
- DirectorMarc WebbStarsAndrew GarfieldEmma StoneRhys IfansAfter Peter Parker is bitten by a genetically altered spider, he gains newfound, spider-like powers and ventures out to save the city from the machinations of a mysterious reptilian foe. This Spider-Man film strikes a good chord because it is more truthful to the comics and it does a much better job of focusing on Peter Parker and his story. Also, the chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone is wonderful. The filmmaking and storyline just wasn't done as well as it was in Spider-Man 2.
- DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Gwyneth PaltrowTerrence HowardAfter being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.I'm not as into this series as most people, but I have to give respect to this film, a great first effort from Marvel Studios. It did not take long for Robert Downey Jr. to convince us that he is the perfect Tony Stark.
