- DirectorTom HanksStarsTom HanksJulia RobertsSarah MahoneyAfter losing his job, a middle-aged man reinvents himself by going back to college.Watched DVD 1/6/12. Hard to believe 2 such big actors could put together a film this stupid. Script incredibly dumb. Totally unappealing movie. Tom should stop working with Nia Vardallos.
- DirectorDouglas McGrathStarsSarah Jessica ParkerPierce BrosnanKelsey GrammerA comedy centered on the life of Kate Reddy, a finance executive who is the breadwinner for her husband and two kids.Watched DVD: 1/13/12. Sappy, trite and predictable, but a pleasantly mindless enough film to watch.
- DirectorMark MylodStarsAnna FarisChris EvansAri GraynorA woman looks back at the past nineteen men she's had relationships with in her life and wonders if one of them might be her one true love.Watched DVD: 1/15/12. Much raunchier than I expected, but not a bad little rom-com.
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsDaniel CraigRooney MaraChristopher PlummerJournalist Mikael Blomkvist is aided in his search for a woman who has been missing for 40 years by young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander.Saw at Dedham Showcase 1/16/12. - DirectorWoody AllenStarsAnthony HopkinsNaomi WattsJosh BrolinSally's parents' marriage breaks up when her father undergoes a mid-life crisis and impulsively weds a prostitute. Meanwhile, Sally's own marriage also begins to disintegrate.Watched DVD: 1/20/12. One of Allen's throwaway films. One of those movies you expect to somewhere after all time spent laying out premise, but then it just stops. Not a very good film, although Naomi Watts is terrific.
- DirectorEdward NortonStarsBen StillerEdward NortonJenna ElfmanTwo friends, a priest and a rabbi, fall in love with the same woman they knew in their youth, but the religious position of both men denies them romance.Saw DVD: 1/21/12. Very dopey film. Almost like a joke: Priest and a Rabbi walk into a bar -- and fall in love with the same girl. Ben Stiller's a "hip" rabbi because he turns his synagogue into something that resembles the church scene in Blues Brothers - like that could happen.

Wife didn't like it. I thought the fantasizing about what you would do if you could lead a different life was interesting. Hit me where I live right now.
- DirectorMichael J. WeithornStarsJenna FischerJay KlaitzDaniel YelskyA woman gets entangled in a series of bizarre lies in order to take care of herself and her 12-year-old son.Streamed Neftlifx: 3/8/12. Jenna Fischer does a great job. A good story.

Not very likeable characters. A review mentioned the silly, ABC Afternoon Special type ending, which was right on. Susan Sarandon a waste.

- DirectorLars von TrierStarsKirsten DunstCharlotte GainsbourgKiefer SutherlandTwo sisters find their already strained relationship challenged as a mysterious new planet threatens to collide with Earth.Watched DVD: 4/6/12. A depressing story about a depressed woman. Really slow. No sense of characters. Boring and disjointed.
- DirectorAlex GregoryPeter HuyckStarsJason SudeikisLeslie BibbTyler LabineA group of 30-year-olds who have been friends since high school attempt to throw an end-of-summer orgy.Watched DVD: 4/8/12. Very funny & surprisingly good, given the off-the-charts subject matter. I expected this to be as dopey as Hot Tub Time Machine, but it wasn't.

- DirectorNicholas StollerStarsJason SegelEmily BluntChris PrattOne year after meeting, Tom proposes to his girlfriend, Violet, but unexpected events keep tripping them up as they look to walk down the aisle together.Saw at legacy 5/4/12 Much better than expected a good and funny look at the tensions in a long-term relationship.
