Part II of my faves - great horror films that I can watch again and again, if I can ever find where I put the dvd. Not in any particular order.

- DirectorJohn LandisStarsDavid NaughtonJenny AgutterJoe BelcherTwo American college students on a walking tour of Britain are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists.I've been in some pubs just like The Slaughtered Lamb. This wonderfully witty and inventive horror film has stood the test of time; its central transformation sequence a thousand times better than the CGI'd-up modern Wolf Man. Rick Baker what were you thinking?
- DirectorRoger CormanStarsVincent PriceMark DamonMyrna FaheyUpon entering his fiancée's family mansion, a man discovers a savage family curse and fears that his future brother-in-law has entombed his bride-to-be prematurely.Slow moving and with a cast of four (apart from a few extras), this is the first of the Roger Corman Poes and features a fine performance from Vincent Price. Not a camp expression in sight!
- DirectorGeorge A. RomeroStarsDuane JonesJudith O'DeaKarl HardmanA ragtag group of Pennsylvanians barricade themselves in an old farmhouse to remain safe from a horde of flesh-eating ghouls that are ravaging the Northeast of the United States. When this film was originally released parents used to drop their six-year old kids off at the pictures to see it by themselves (True). I'm sure the wonderfully downbeat ending and images of zombies eating people's innards didn't harm the little mites at all...
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsAdrienne BarbeauJamie Lee CurtisJanet LeighAn unearthly fog rolls into a small coastal town exactly 100 years after a ship mysteriously sank in its waters.Still underated; this remains one of John Carpenter's best efforts; a neat little M.R. James-style ghost story where the ghosts are astonishingly physical - just ask the guy who gets the meat hook through his head.
- DirectorJames WhaleStarsBoris KarloffElsa LanchesterColin CliveMary Shelley reveals the main characters of her novel survived: Baron Henry Frankenstein, goaded by an even madder scientist, builds his monster a mate.Camp. James Whale invented it. Ernest Thesiger personified it. Another great portrayal by Karloff as the monster; possibly the most polished of all Universal's horror films. Just turn the sound down when Una O'Connor screams...
- DirectorRidley ScottStarsSigourney WeaverTom SkerrittJohn HurtThe crew of a commercial spacecraft encounters a deadly lifeform after investigating a mysterious transmission of unknown origin.Fantastic Lovecraftian horror from Ridley Scott. Richly atmospheric and genuinely creepy. And Sigourney Weaver strips to her undies....
- DirectorPiers HaggardStarsPatrick WymarkLinda HaydenBarry AndrewsIn early 18th century England, the children of a village slowly convert into a coven of devil worshipers.Nice, tasteful title. Hides a wonderfully disturbing movie. I still have nightmares about Linda Hayden's eyebrows.
- DirectorTerence FisherStarsPeter CushingHazel CourtRobert UrquhartWhile awaiting execution for murder, Baron Victor Frankenstein tells the story of a creature he built and brought to life - only for it to behave not as he intended. The flm that made Cushing and Lee into stars. However the young Victor is played by Melvyn Hayes from It Ain't Half Hot, Mum. At least he wasn't type-cast after this movie. Involving and richly atmospheric.
- DirectorEdgar WrightStarsSimon PeggNick FrostKate AshfieldThe uneventful, aimless lives of a London electronics salesman and his layabout roommate are disrupted by the zombie apocalypse.Featuring what we British do best when faced with calamity and horror: head straight for the pub.
- DirectorSeth HoltStarsBette DavisWendy CraigJill BennettThere's just something not quite right when Bette Davis stars as an English nanny. And is her 10-year-old charge an emotionally disturbed murderer or just an insolent brat?Bette Davis plays the title role, and proves almost as scary as she was in real life. Fine suspense thriller from Hammer Films.
- DirectorRoy Ward BakerStarsJames DonaldAndrew KeirBarbara ShelleyA mysterious artifact is unearthed in London, and famous scientist Bernard Quatermass is called in to divine its origins and explain its strange effects on people.Just like in Shaun of Dead, when all hell breaks loose the two leads end up in a pub. One of the cleverest concepts ever put in a horror movie. We are the Martians. That's why we keep voting for rubbish Prime Ministers....
- DirectorTerence FisherStarsPeter CushingMartita HuntYvonne MonlaurVampire hunter Dr. Van Helsing returns to Transylvania to destroy handsome bloodsucker Baron Meinster, who has designs on a beautiful young schoolteacher.Fantastic Hammer sequel to their original smash. No Christopher Lee, he was busy pretending he wasnt a horror film actor, probably. The superb Peter Cushing does show up, as does a disciple of Dracula at a ladies finishing school. Way Hay!
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsDonald PleasenceJamie Lee CurtisTony MoranFifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois to kill again. They never put this on the telly at Christmas for some reason. Classic John Carpenter slasher movie that unfortunately spawned about a million rubbish imitators.
- DirectorRichard DonnerStarsGregory PeckLee RemickHarvey StephensMysterious deaths surround an American ambassador. Could the child that he is raising actually be the Antichrist? The Devil's own son?Better than the Exorcist if you ask me. Which you probably won't. Gregory Peck's Nanny-hiring skills are a bit, duff. David Warner's Parka - I want one!
- DirectorMichael ReevesStarsVincent PriceIan OgilvyRupert DaviesDuring the English Civil War, a young Roundhead seeks vengeance against a vicious witch-hunter and his henchman, who have terrorized the soldier's fiancée and wrongfully executed her uncle.Vinnie Price again in Michael Reeve's superb countryside horror movie. Not good as the second half of a comedy double bill, though.
- DirectorBob ClarkStarsOlivia HusseyKeir DulleaMargot KidderDuring their Christmas break, a group of sorority girls are stalked by a stranger. And they never put this on at Halloween....a proto slasher with fantastic style that keeps you guessing right to end.
- DirectorEdgar G. UlmerStarsBoris KarloffBela LugosiDavid MannersAmerican honeymooners in Hungary become trapped in the home of a Satan-worshipping priest when the bride is taken there for medical help following a road accident. It's got Karloff and Lugosi. I'm just off to change me trousers! Still frightening even today; even Karloff's haircut scares me.
- DirectorMichael CurtizStarsLionel AtwillFay WrayGlenda FarrellThe disappearance of people and corpses leads a reporter to a wax museum and a sinister sculptor.Lionel Atwill stars as Ivan Igor. With a name like that you know he's not playing a goodie. Early two-colour horror movie in the Warner Bros style. And I quite fancy Glenda Farrell.
- DirectorTod BrowningStarsWallace FordLeila HyamsOlga BaclanovaA circus' beautiful trapeze artist agrees to marry the leader of side-show performers, but his deformed friends discover she is only marrying him for his inheritance.Politically correct title - not! Disturbing and yet moving; Director Tod Browning had a thing for side-shows. He started out in one himself, by being buried for 3 days in a coffin (true). Nice guy to have at parties.
- DirectorRoger CormanStarsVincent PricePeter LorreBoris KarloffA magician, who has been turned into a raven, turns to a former sorcerer for help. What, Vincent Price camps it up? Never! I love this movie, Peter Lorre ad-libbed his entire way through it. Karloff's the baddie, Vinnie's the goodie, even though he keeps his missus' casket in the hall.
