- DirectorFrank MillerQuentin TarantinoRobert RodriguezStarsMickey RourkeClive OwenBruce WillisAn exploration of the dark and miserable Basin City and three of its residents, all of whom are caught up in violent corruption.Best graphic novel adaptation EVER based on the 90s graphic novel tribute to film noir by Frank Miller. Only half the books were adapted for this movie, but a sequel is on the way that will adapt the remaining ones. The movie version is so faithful that it is essentially Frank Miller's graphic novels in motion. Everything from the tone, the look and the characters are perfect.
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsGerard ButlerLena HeadeyDavid WenhamIn the ancient battle of Thermopylae, King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fight against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. They face insurmountable odds when they are betrayed by a Spartan reject.Zack Snyder's faithful adaptation of Frank Miller's stylised take on the Spartan War. The movie version added more depth to the comic by including a political subplot involving Leonidas' wife's efforts on the homefront to garner support from the other greeks. Amazing filmatography that replicates the bronze painted look of the graphic novel. Fans of the graphic novel will have great fun matching each frame of the film to the panels in the comic.
- CreatorDuane CapizziGeofrey DarrowJeff KlineStarsPamela AdlonJonathan David CookJim HanksWhen under attack by evil aliens or an insane robot cult, only Big Guy (Jonathan David Cook) and Rusty, the Boy Robot (Pamela Adlon) can save America. Here is a unique case of the adaptation overshadowing the original. Big guy and Rusty was a limited series by Frank Miller that parodied giant monster movies and mecha anime from japan. It had some clever subtexts between the lines too. The cartoon removed that subtext but developed the characters more than the comics. The narrative was slightly darker than your usual kids cartoon featuring an overarching story involving the "Legion Ex Machina". The surprise twist in the end is a rare thing for cartoons nowadays.
Nonetheless, the cartoon was great fun, and had great stories too. - DirectorMark Steven JohnsonStarsBen AffleckJennifer GarnerColin FarrellA man blinded by toxic waste which also enhanced his remaining senses fights crime as an acrobatic martial arts superhero. The movie met with mixed reviews. But comic fans would know that this film draws material from the daredevil stories written and drawn by Frank Miller. Particularly from issues 168 and 181. There are also elements from Matt Murdock's origin from "The Man without Fear", a limited series written by Miller and drawn by John Romita Jr.
- DirectorRob BowmanStarsJennifer GarnerGoran VisnjicWill Yun LeeElektra the warrior survives a near-death experience, becomes an assassin-for-hire, and tries to protect her two latest targets, a single father and his young daughter, from a group of supernatural assassins.Despite the liberties taken with the comic, the character of Elektra was indeed created by Frank Miller. There are some elements from the comics like "Elektra Assassin" and "Elektra lives again" by Frank Miller but they are only fleeting similarities. The character was great, but the movie was............its own creature.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleMichael CaineKen WatanabeAfter witnessing his parents' death, Bruce learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city.Although it does not adapt a specific Batman storyline from the comics, the creators of Batman Begins have cited Frank Miller's works of "The Dark Knight Returns" and "Batman Year One" as their primary influences.
