- DirectorTobe HooperStarsMarilyn BurnsEdwin NealAllen DanzigerFive friends head out to rural Texas to visit the grave of a grandfather. On the way they stumble across what appears to be a deserted house, only to discover something sinister within. Something armed with a chainsaw.Low budget horror nasty goes mainstream. Cinema is changed forever.
- DirectorSean S. CunninghamStarsBetsy PalmerAdrienne KingJeannine TaylorA group of teenage camp counselors attempt to re-open an abandoned summer camp with a tragic past, but they are stalked by a mysterious, relentless killer.Always banking the most with relatively the lowest production costs, this one churned endless sequels, till the one in space, and then came the remake, probably with more endless sequels sure to come.Keeps on making money.Unique to the genre.
- DirectorWes CravenStarsHeather LangenkampJohnny DeppRobert EnglundTeenager Nancy Thompson must uncover the dark truth concealed by her parents after she and her friends become targets of the spirit of a serial killer with a bladed glove in their dreams, in which if they die, it kills them in real life.Wes Craven finally breaks thru big in Hollywood and becomes a household name. That along with Mr.Krueger. Unfortunately, the remake of this one sucked more justin bieber's last song.
- DirectorBob ClarkStarsOlivia HusseyKeir DulleaMargot KidderDuring their Christmas break, a group of sorority girls are stalked by a stranger. Finally someone attempts to bring slasher back to cinema.Unfortunately, this one didn't hit big, and it took another 5 years and a movie called Halloween to bring slasher movies back to mainstream horror.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsBruce CampbellSarah BerryDan HicksAsh Williams, the lone survivor of an earlier onslaught of flesh-possessing spirits, holes up in a cabin with a group of strangers while the demons continue their attack.Sam Raimi remakes part one and makes it explode on screen , largely thanks to a bigger budget. Raimi, a friend of the Coens (if not the best in the top 3 directors in holly wood the last 20 years), shows hes got real talent with this trilogy.A long and fruitful career is ahead of the man.A true gem in the horror genre. Part two being my personal fav.
- DirectorAlfred HitchcockStarsAnthony PerkinsJanet LeighVera MilesA Phoenix secretary embezzles $40,000 from her employer's client, goes on the run and checks into a remote motel run by a young man under the domination of his mother. The master Hitchcock, teaching us all how to make amazing cinema. The first of its kind. A legend in the genre.
- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsJack NicholsonShelley DuvallDanny LloydA family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where a sinister presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from both past and future.Master director Kubrick applies talents at a horror movie. What we get is pne of the finest psychological horror/thriller movies that have ever been made, one that can be endlessly viewed. That and one of Jack's best and most memorable performance.
- DirectorJohn CarpenterStarsKurt RussellWilford BrimleyKeith DavidA research team in Antarctica is hunted by a shape-shifting alien that assumes the appearance of its victims.Carpenter often makes movies which are brilliant or complete *beep* , sometiems he strikes gold. Tho this movie could be considered sci/fi, its got enough gore and slime to fill a swimming pool, and because its plays the "who is the killer/alien" routine so well, it deserves a place among the best in horror.
- DirectorMary HarronStarsChristian BaleJustin TherouxJosh LucasA wealthy New York City investment banking executive, Patrick Bateman, hides his alternate psychopathic ego from his co-workers and friends as he delves deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies.A unique slasher flick, this movie is driven by the performance of the lead, and that combined with an amazing ensemble of actors , makes a must see for horror fans. Tho not your average horror, its got some gory moments Ant is really about a guy going insane. There are dozen of other horror movies with the same story (shining, mouth of madness ,etc) , but this one tops the list ( in my book :))
- DirectorDaniel MyrickEduardo SánchezStarsHeather DonahueMichael C. WilliamsJoshua LeonardThree film students vanish after traveling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind. With such a small budget and big impact , a unique horror movie. It was so big that they made a mainstream sequel which sucked horribly, and they waited 10 years ( i guess 1 generation?Like we forget?) to release the exact same movie, with a different name. Paranormal activity anyone?
- DirectorClive BarkerStarsAndrew RobinsonClare HigginsAshley LaurenceA woman discovers the newly resurrected, partially formed, body of her brother-in-law and lover. She starts killing for him to revitalize his body and escape the demonic beings that are pursuing him after he escaped their underworld.Clive barker uses his writing talents in hollywood. What we get in horror gold. One of the few horror series with good sequels.
- DirectorWilliam FriedkinStarsEllen BurstynMax von SydowLinda BlairWhen a young girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two Catholic priests to save her life. The godfather of horror films. Classic ,stylish and brilliant in every way.
- DirectorJonathan DemmeStarsJodie FosterAnthony HopkinsScott GlennA young F.B.I. cadet must receive the help of an incarcerated and manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial killer, a madman who skins his victims.A "horror" movie gets oscars. It will probably never happen again. A gem.
