10 titles
- DirectorWilliam FriedkinStarsEllen BurstynMax von SydowLinda BlairWhen a young girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two Catholic priests to save her life. What horror list isn't complete without this masterpiece. Compared to today's standards its not all that scary, but put yourself into the storyline and you'll be creeped out in no time!
- DirectorWes CravenStarsHeather LangenkampJohnny DeppRobert EnglundTeenager Nancy Thompson must uncover the dark truth concealed by her parents after she and her friends become targets of the spirit of a serial killer with a bladed glove in their dreams, in which if they die, it kills them in real life.A classic film that scared the hell out of me as a child. It was recently remade into a crappy film, so my advice is to stick with the original film!
- DirectorFrank DarabontStarsThomas JaneMarcia Gay HardenLaurie HoldenA freak storm unleashes a species of bloodthirsty creatures on a small town, where a small band of citizens hole up in a supermarket and fight for their lives. What an excellent movie! Your either going to love it or hate it and I love this movie!
- DirectorWes CravenStarsNeve CampbellCourteney CoxDavid ArquetteA year after the murder of her mother, a teenage girl is terrorized by a masked killer who targets her and her friends by using scary movies as part of a deadly game.I'm sure this one will be controversial on this list because a lot of people don't consider this a scary film, but for its time before all the caller IDs and that, this was a scary film. It's one of my favorite films and has a decent sequel, the third one however is complete crap.
- DirectorDaniel MyrickEduardo SánchezStarsHeather DonahueMichael C. WilliamsJoshua LeonardThree film students vanish after traveling into a Maryland forest to film a documentary on the local Blair Witch legend, leaving only their footage behind.Another one of those movies your either going to love or hate. I loved it from the moment I saw it. The atmosphere is creepy and its a very original film. It started this whole new genre but believe it or not...it wasn't the first of its kind.
- DirectorPhilippe MoraStarsChristopher WalkenLindsay CrouseFrances SternhagenOn December 26th Whitley Strieber has a strange nightmare. In the following days, plagued by painful headaches, his behavior becomes increasingly erratic. Later, under hypnosis, he realizes that his dream was not a dream at all. It's more of a drama but it has some of the most terrifying scenes in any movie I've ever seen. Based on actual events (if your willing to believe such things like I do) this is one film you can't pass up if your wanting a good scare.
- DirectorChristophe GansStarsRadha MitchellLaurie HoldenSean BeanRose Da Silva takes her adopted daughter, Sharon, to the town of Silent Hill in an attempt to cure her of her ailment. After a violent car crash, Sharon disappears and Rose begins a horrific journey to get her back. The one and ONLY great video game adapted movie in my eyes. It's disturbing, fun and has an ending that will keep you guessing long after watching it. Highly recommend this excellent film!
- DirectorJames WanStarsCary ElwesLeigh WhannellDanny GloverTwo strangers awaken in a room with no recollection of how they got there, and soon discover they're pawns in a deadly game perpetrated by a notorious serial killer. This movie defined disturbing horror for me. It was an excellent film that had a twist NO ONE saw coming! The sequel has an even better twist, but its not as good as the original in my eyes.
- DirectorGeorge A. RomeroStarsDuane JonesJudith O'DeaKarl HardmanA ragtag group of Pennsylvanians barricade themselves in an old farmhouse to remain safe from a horde of flesh-eating ghouls that are ravaging the Northeast of the United States. The original still remains my favorite, although the 1991 remake is also great but the scary atmosphere is missing from it. Maybe its because its black and white, but its still scary as hell.
- DirectorRob ZombieStarsSid HaigKaren BlackBill MoseleyTwo young couples traveling across the backwoods of Texas searching for urban legends of murder end up as prisoners of a bizarre and sadistic backwater family of serial killers. An amazing horror film from Rob Zombie. It's disturbing and a lot of fun at the same time.
