Historical Timeline

2000
  • The festival organizers have withdrawn the classic Japanese erotic movie _Ai no corrida (1976)_ from this year's Singapore International Film Festival retrospective section after government censors insisted on cuts. The retrospective, which includes erotic films from India, Turkey and other countries, is intended to raise awareness of the way Asian directors have handled sexuality. Out of the 16 films in the retrospective, censors only insisted on cuts to the Japanese film, however another, the South-Korean Gojitmal (1999) has been banned outright. The 13-year-old Singapore festival has a policy against screening films that have been cut.
