- Bertil Möller is coming home to his father for a short visit, after being away eight years as a sailor. Nils Möller has prepared some surprises for his son, including a visit of his former best friend Olle. But the reunion doesn't turn out the way Nils Möller has expected. The three of them have drifted apart during all these years. Their general views on life, what to strive for and how to live, are now very different.
- Möller is visiting his wife's grave when an elegant woman approaches him. She tells him she's a widow, opens a conversation with him about being alone and finally invites him to her big house. Soon he finds out that he is the victim of a confidence trickster.

Blom is willing to research Möller's family connections in exchange for a rare stamp in Möller's possession. Blom says that many Swedes are related to royalties, aristocrats and bishops without knowing it. Möller starts imaging a glorious family background for himself. He buys some antiques to match this new social status, without knowing the result of Blom's investigation yet.

When he arrives he meets the officer which they called captain Fi. But he also meets an old fellow-soldier, called Småland. Both Möller and Småland are now middle-aged men, but back at the old camp they start recalling their boyish pranks again. The two fellows get on captain Fi's nerves, just as they did thirty years ago.
