HWA now has members throughout the United States, Canada, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, and Australia. (from the HWA's web site, 2000)
- The Bram Stoker Awards are given for achievements in the horror writing genre since 1988. While film and TV related achievements were occasionally nominated in the 'other media' category in 1994 and 1999, a 'screenplay' category has been introduced in 1999 and been dropped after the ceremony in 2005.
